Tour Guide Kari!

So for our last stretch on our trip, luckily several families decided to stay extra days in Shanghai after the official end of our tour, and none of them knew what to do with themselves. Naturally, I became the local guide for this section of the trip. We had representatives from 4 out of the 6 families. Not bad! We were hoping to get me my own Winnie the Pooh flag because I move quickly through the subways.

I took the women back to Yu Yuan gardens since we didn't have enough time to shop when the tour first dropped us off. I found kiosk with an instant hair thingy demonstration. I only had to stand their about 10 seconds before I got chosen to be a demonstrator. It was a huge compliment when I returned ot the tour group and they all thought I had doen my hair myself. When I took them back on our own, we all got our hair done :)

It was fun to take everyone around on the subway, and neat experience for all of them. By the evening, they were all able to naviagte Shanghai on their own, I was a proud tour guide. Here are two of our group members, obviously when the subway was less crowded. But at the end of the day during rush hour, we were coming down the escalator just as a subway pulled up. I did a head count to make sure we had everyone, and that everyone had a certain determined look on their face to catch the train before making a run for it. The girls said it was hilarious to watch me weave through all the people at a run on the subway because the doors were closing and I knew I had to keep moving because I had 8 people getting on behind me.

So now I'll be signing off for the summer. It's been great traveling with Aunt Lynne and getting to know more parts of China than just my little Beilun, but I'm very excited to head home home home :)

And lastly, here are our two official group pictures. One in Beijing with Tour Guide Alice, one in Hangzhou with Tour Guide Coco. It was a very fun adventure.

  1. I don't think I've ever commented, but I've enjoyed reading about your adventures in China and update Eli on interesting stuff. It's been fun to read about a very different part of the world from my little corner of it.
